Possum Creek Herb Farm’s humble start began with a few gardens and one greenhouse in July 1998. Open on Sundays, the farm drew in people from down the street or two or three states away. These people stopped in to pick up healthy, organically grown herbs to grow in their own gardens, often returning several times a season and always at special events, classes and open houses.
Fast forward ahead a couple of years to 2001 and several hundred mail orders later as the farm expanded yet again with another greenhouse. Additional hours were added to the farm schedule along with more classes and events. Herb fairs, festivals and more gardens were added as well. 2004 brought the addition of The Herb Barn, which housed our retail shop and herb product manufacturing area.
Also, in 2004, Pat Stewart came on board to “give me a hand” and just never left. She has become an integral part of Possum Creek, which expanded onto her property with two more greenhouses in 2005 and 2006. Now, it is late 2007 and expansion and change has come again to Possum Creek with another greenhouse bring the total to six. Pat and I also completed our studies and received the Master Herbalist diploma in 2006, which brings me especially full circle to when I picked up that first herb book back in 1986 and said, “I’d like to grow some herbs”.
Many changes have come to the farm in these
past ten years with the largest and most productive being our wholesale operation that began in 2006. We can proudly say our herb plants are in almost every state of the nation in small nurseries, little shops and quaint herb gardens. The farm is not open to the public at this time and classes are often at other venues, but we’re growing thousands of herbs every year
for our retail and wholesale herb customers. We surely do enjoy the sea of green that greets
us each and every time we open the greenhouse doors.
